Kamon Database – Usagi

Figure: rabbit.

The Usagi mon is a rather rare emblem. So far, old Japanese records only indicate the Mihashi and the Terao clans as bearers of rabbit insignias. In Japanese heraldry, kamon figuring mammals are extremely rare: one can find only rabbits and horses. There are in fact a few mon that feature shishi, a sort of mythological lion, and a fewer crests representing a bat, but it was probably considered a bird rather than a mammal in the past.
